Growing old gracefully
As time goes by and we get older, the body ages with all its inherent physical changes. But for the mind, this is a special time of grace in which our thoughts turn to truth and love more acutely. Our memories of past deeds and beliefs are inclined to be tempered with patience and tolerance to understand the difficult situations and circumstances we went through, nourished by truth and love.
When you observe Grandparents who have the good fortune to be present in the company of their children’s children, you can really feel the presence of truth and love. Nothing can be more bountiful for those grandchildren to have the opportunity to observe their grandparents and their life time experiences; for them to witness their family history, community engagement, and the ability to share in their courage, convictions, confidence, wisdom, knowledge, faith, hopes, beliefs, truth and love. What a beautiful ancestry and heritage to be a part of and continue for generations to come!
As grandparents, how special it is to have been able to live a life full of truth and love and to pass on those illustrious principles twice blessed; firstly to your children and then to your grandchildren. Elders are wonderful instruments; they are the voices of truth and love. Take some time out of your busy life soon, and simply just visit an elderly person and if they feel comfortable talking with you, ask them what they believe truth and love is? You’ll be surprised at how joyful you become!
I had the privilege of being part of a family for fifteen years whose grandmother, in my mind, was a wonderful example of truth and love. During my many visits with her and despite her disability with blindness, she shone with truth and love by living an honest life with her family and friends. She spoke with a clear conscience, which gave her peace, freedom and happiness. Her love for everyone was heart warming; she was gracious, understanding in times of need, more often to others than to herself. She was caring and forgiving, loyal in good and difficult times, and did not settle for less than living her life in such a manner, that all remained united by her making allowances for human weakness without critique or judgment. She was my beautiful friend and I miss her truth and love. She exemplified the meaning of truth and love and validates where I stand today, as the only way I know how to live a good, peaceful and beautiful life.
